1. Conference Aims
AsCA 2018 / CRYSTAL 32, aims to:
- Promote all aspects of structural science including structural biology, chemical crystallography, electron microscopy, crystal engineering, materials science, physics and fundamental science, and methods including instrumentation, techniques and computation.
- Highlight current and emerging research priorities and trends
- Draw on experience from other regions
- Share work in progress and project outcomes.
2. Conference Themes
The conference broadly follows three streams below with specific microsymposia sub-themes and topics tabulated.
- Structural Biology
- Chemical Crystallography
- Novel and Specialized Techniques
|Area 1 - Structural Biology||Area 2 - Chemical Crystallography/Materials||Area 3 - Frontier Methods|
|MS1||Membrane proteins||MS2||Crystal engineering||MS3||Novel synchrotron and neutron applications|
|MS4||Macromolecular complexes and assemblies||MS5||Structure and properties of functional materials||MS6||Crystallography under extreme conditions|
|MS7||Applications of cryo-EM to structural biology||MS8||MOFs and hybrid materials||MS9||Recent developments in crystal growth|
|MS10||Disease-related proteins||MS11||Solid state reactions and dynamics||MS12||XFELS and serial crystallography|
|MS13||Hot structures - biology||MS14||Hot structures - chemistry||MS15||Advanced methods in crystallography, electron diffraction and cryo-EM|
|MS16||Hybrid methods in structural biology||MS17||Microcrystalline materials, ceramics and minerals||MS18||Database developments, validation and data mining|
If your topic does not fit one of those offered please submit using the “other” subject tab. Microsymposia topics may be altered as required by the conference organisers.
3. Presentation Types
There will be TWO presentation types (Oral and Poster) at AsCA 2018/CRYSTAL 32. Both are equally valued contributions. Submitting authors are encouraged to choose their preferred presentation format. However the final presentation type will be determined by the AsCA 2018/CRYSTAL 32 conference committee.
Oral presentations within the microsymposia will typically last for a total of 20 minutes*, with 15 minutes dedicated to the presentation followed by 5 minutes for questions. All presenters are encouraged to arrive at their session at least 15 minutes early and to bring their presentation on a flash drive as a Powerpoint or PDF. The University of Auckland computing system is PC-based but Mac-based presenters who have their own “Mac to VGA/HDMI” dongle can be accommodated. *Timings subject to change.
Posters will be mounted in the open space available to attendees during breaks. Each poster presenter will be allocated a 1.2m wide x 2.3m high space. This will fit an A0 portrait sized poster. Velcro will be provided as an adhesive material. All authors are expected to print their own materials.
4. Submission Details
Each submission is to be completed on the submission template provided below:
Abstracts should include a Title (up to 20 words), Abstract, Authors and Affiliations. One figure up to 1MB is allowed as specified in the template. Please compose these carefully as they will appear as submitted on the conference website.
To submit your abstract, please click on the button below:
5. Evaluation Criteria
All submissions will be reviewed to assign them to the appropriate microsymposia. Speakers for each microsymposia will be chosen from either invited speakers or from the abstracts. Submissions will be required to comply with the word count and requested format. All submitters will receive an email confirming the outcome of their proposal.
6. Conference Equity Policies
AsCA 2018 and CRYSTAL 32 are being operated under the conference guidelines regarding geography, gender, and experience as established by the AsCA and SCANZ councils. The full policy statement is available on the main web page, here.
